Mutual fund units after death: transmission in India
Mutual-fund units held in a folio are transmitted through the fund house or its registrar and transfer agent. Units held in a demat account follow the demat transmission route through the Depository Participant instead.
Work out where the units are held
- Use statements or the consolidated account statement to identify each folio and holding mode.
- For a non-demat folio, ask the fund house or registrar for its current transmission form.
- For demat units, contact the DP shown on the demat statement.
- Check whether the folio was joint and whether a nominee was registered.
- Submit only the checklist for that holding mode and claimant route, and keep an acknowledgement.
